MYC CENTREBOARDS

The Centreboard division of the Manly Yacht Club is a small group of very keen centreboard sailors of all skill levels. We sail mostly Lasers but occasionally there is a Tasar or a Finn joining us for a nice race around Manly Cove.

The centreboard fleet at MYC conducts a series of races through the summer months, consisting of the Club Championships - using the yardstick method of scoring - and the Spring and Autumn Handicap series as shown in the MYC Calendar.

Throughout the winter, as weather permits, a series of Try Dinghy Sailing Days is conducted in Manly Cove for beginners and potential new and existing members. Details of these days are advertised in the MYC Newsletter and on the MYC website.

In addition there are the Women's Challenge and the Australia Day Regatta as special events in the Centreboard calendar.

Member usage of club owned lasers and tasars

MYC has a number of club-owned Lasers. These boats are primarily intended to attract new members to join the Centreboard fleet and for junior training.

The club boats are available for use as follows:

General use:
The person responsible for the boat must be a current MYC member; must have some accreditation indicating capability to handle a centreboard or dinghy; or demonstrate personal experience; and must be on the register of users.

To have your name added to the current user register, you need to contact either orboth MYC Centreboards Coordinators to be vetted as to skills and safety on the water. The MYC Centreboards Coordinators have been appointed by the Sailing Committee to ensure members using the boats have sufficient knowledge of the procedures and rules and of the necessary skills to sail safely without assistance (such as rigging, capsizing and righting up the boat).

You sail at your own risk. No assistance is provided by MYC outside race times. YOU MUST WEAR A SAFETY JACKET. MYC does not provide safety jackets.

When racing in club events you MUST BE AT THE CLUB BY 1230 AND BE ON THE WATER BY 1330.

Before taking a club boat out, the member must:
- check the condition of the hull and of the dedicated equipment so that the boat is in a safe condition to be sailed; and
- record any existing damage or issues such as missing/loose fittings in the log book (located by the lockers); and
- note his name, phone number, name of an emergency contact, the date, the time and name of the boat taken out.

Upon returning, the member must:
- record the return time; and
- record any damage done or any other issue; and
- rinse and return all equipment in the dedicated locker and on the dedicated rack.

A donation of $5 to the maintenance fund of club boats to cover general costs will be greatly appreciated

On days where a race or an event is scheduled:

Considering the limited number of boats available, it is essential for members or nonmembers requesting the use of a boat to:
- send a message 3 days before the race to check the availability of the boat to the MYC Centreboards Coordinators who will confirm availability; and - register upon arrival by filling in a race form and paying the race fee.

Non members:

A club boat may be used by a guest on a race day, up to three times, upon invitation and supervision by a member. The responsible member must vouch for the skills of the guest or request that the MYC Centreboard Coordinators vet the guest (see above). In addition to the rules applicable to members for the use of club boats, the guest must be made aware of and comply with other MYC rules and YA regulations. In case of shortage of boats for a scheduled race or event, members have priority over nonmembers.

A donation of $5 to the maintenance fund of club boats to cover general costs will be greatly appreciated.

IT IS AN IMPORTANT CONDITION OF USE THAT ANY PERSON USING THESE BOATS IS TAKING FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE OR INJURY AND WILL TAKE ALL REASONABLE STEPS TO ARRANGE AND PAY FOR ANY NEEDED REPAIRS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

IF AT FAULT, THE MEMBER WILL BEAR THE COST OF INSURANCE EXCESS IN
